Our projects

Main projects:

PRIMATE SANCTUARY

The Sumak Allpa Biodiversity Center is focused in Primate rehabilitation.
why Primates?.

Because primates are the most affected species by illegal traffic, our province Orellana leads the statistics in wildlife traffic.

Since 2007 to 2021 we have worked with 9 primates species:

1.- LAGOTRIX POEPPIGII
2.- SAGUINUS GRAELLSI
3.- SAGUINUS TRIPARTITUS
4.- SAIMIRI SCIUREUS
5.- CEBUELLA PYGMAEA
6.- CEBUS ALBIFRONS
7.- PITECHIA MONACHUS
8.- DISCOLOR DE CALLICEBUS
9.- AOTUS VOCIFERANS

Based in our concepts where not cages or captivity was considered, our 115 hectares island provides the proper space and food. It is very important to remark that due to normal exposure to predators, 2 of the 9 species were decimated on the island. Predators plays a role of population controlers and on the island we are facing the action of 2 kind of them. Eagles and Boa constrictor. But at the end we can say that the breeding rates are the best ever knew in these kind of projects, we are working on our Translocation program, wich will be the first in Ecuador done with primates.

SUMAK ALLPA BICULTURAL AND BILINGUAL ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

In Amazon basin as in rural areas of Ecuador, less than 50% of children get access to education, provide education was our main aim therefore from 2007 to 2011 our School provided education to 19 kids, nowadays the School was relocated to a little Kichwa community in mainland.

PRIMATE RESEARCH

The primate population in Ecuador is rich, but biological information is poor from 21 species known may be less than 10 we have good information about. Trying to understand their biology, we keep ongoing studies about Diet, Behaviour, Breeding, Interaction, Territory and more valuable information which is done by selected biology students from prestigious universities from USA. All this information collected over these years determined that our project is able to execute translocation programs.

ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION

Our visits are aimed to make people aware about wildlife threats where human are the main factor in this cruel problem. We contribute to School and Universities offering a chance to change minds and be a responsible been on this planet
